Made-to-measure balustrades
Metal balustrades for stairs, landings and balconies
A balustrade stops a fall and frames a view, and the best ones do the first without spoiling the second. We make every type: bar, glass, glass and stainless, frameless channel, modular post systems and wire.

The systems we make
Vertical bar balustrade in steel, the traditional choice and the cheapest. Glass balustrade in framed or frameless panels. Glass and stainless post systems for stairs and terraces. Frameless channel glass for an unbroken edge. Modular round and square stainless post kits for commercial areas. Wire infill for a light, modern line. Each has its own page on this site.
Heights, loads and standards
In a house the guarding along a stair or landing is at least 900 mm tall; roof edges and outside balconies call for 1100 mm. Where under-fives may be about, size every opening in the infill to hold back a 100 mm sphere. Our balustrade height note has the full table, commercial buildings included. Loads follow BS 6180 and depend on where the balustrade is and how many people can lean on it. We design to those figures, and glass is toughened or laminated to the size and thickness the standard requires.
Fitted to what you have
Balustrades fix to concrete, steel, timber and masonry, each differently. The survey tells us what we are fixing to, and the drawing shows the fixings, so there are no surprises when the fitters arrive.
Questions we are asked about Balustrades
Can you replace an existing balustrade with glass?
Yes, and it is a request we hear most weeks on 1970s and 1980s houses. We measure the existing stair and make a glass or glass-and-stainless system to fit.
Do you make balustrades for commercial buildings?
Yes. Offices, shops, schools and car parks, with the higher loads those uses need, and drawings for the specifier.
