Metal staircases in mild steel, stainless and aluminium
Not every stair wants to be mild steel. We build in stainless where the finish has to stay bright without paint, and in aluminium where weight matters, and we will tell you which one fits your job at the survey.

Choosing the metal
For most external staircases the right answer is mild steel that has been galvanised and then powder coated: strong, economical and available in any colour. Stainless steel suits coastal sites and high-end interiors where a brushed or polished finish is the point. Aluminium is light and never rusts, which makes it a good choice for roof access and for stairs that have to be lifted into awkward positions.
Designed for the building
Every metal staircase we make starts with a site survey and a drawing. We check the rise and going against the Building Regulations, work out how the stair is carried, and show you the finished stair on paper before any steel is ordered. Changes at the drawing stage cost nothing; changes after fabrication do, so we make sure the drawing is right.
Measured, welded and fitted by the same people
The person who measures your stair is the person who welds it and the person who fits it. There is no handover to a subcontractor and no argument about whose fault a wrong dimension is. Most metal staircases are fitted in a single day.
Questions we are asked about Metal staircases
Is aluminium strong enough for an external staircase?
For light domestic use and roof access, yes, and it is a third of the weight of steel. For fire escapes and commercial stairs we recommend galvanised steel.
Can you match a metal staircase to my windows and doors?
Any RAL colour can be powder coated onto galvanised steel or aluminium, so anthracite, black, white and the common window colours are straightforward.
