How we work
Technical drawings.
Every stair and balustrade we make is drawn to scale ahead of fabrication, and the drawing is yours: for planning, for building control, for your architect, or simply so you can see what you are buying.

What the drawing shows
Plan and elevation of the stair or balustrade with every dimension that matters: rise, going, tread depth, landing size, guarding height and bar spacing, post positions, fixings and the finish. Where a stair is freestanding, the posts and footings are drawn too. For helical and feature stairs we model in 3D so you can see the sweep from the angle you will actually see it.
Regulations on the sheet
Each drawing lists the guidance it was checked against, in an order a building control officer can work down: Approved Document K for rise, going, handrails and guarding; BS 6180 for the loads a balustrade has to carry; BS 5395 for tread and riser layout; and Approved Document B whenever people would use the stair to escape a fire.
Calculations
Structural calculations for stair loads, balustrade loads and fixings can be supplied, prepared by a structural engineer where the building or the inspector requires a signed calculation.
Working with your architect
Send us the architect's package and we produce fabrication drawings that match it, flag anything that will not work on site, and return them for approval before steel is ordered. Revisions before fabrication are free.
