Glass and stainless balustrade
Stainless posts with glass between them is the system you see on modern balconies, decks and office stairs. It is strong, it needs no painting, and it can be built in sections around any shape.

How it is built
Round or square stainless posts, usually 42 or 50 mm, fixed to the floor or the side of the structure. Glass clamps on the posts hold toughened panels between them. A stainless handrail runs along the top, either on the posts or on the glass edge. Every part is grade 316 stainless where it lives outdoors or near the coast.
Where it works best
Balconies and roof terraces, decking, stairs in offices and shops, and anywhere the balustrade has to follow a curve or a run of steps, because posts can go wherever the structure needs them.
Satin or polished
Satin is the everyday finish and hides fingerprints. Polished stainless is a showpiece finish for interiors. Both come from the same workshop and cost about the same.
Questions we are asked about Glass and stainless balustrade
Will stainless steel rust outdoors?
Grade 304 can tea-stain near the sea. We use grade 316 outdoors, which does not, and recommend a wipe down twice a year.
Is frosted or tinted glass an option?
Yes. Satin, frosted and tinted glass fit the same clamps as clear glass.
