Steel staircases for Sussex homes and businesses
Steel is the material we reach for first. It spans further than timber, takes a landing without fuss, and once galvanised it will outlast the building it is bolted to.

What a steel staircase gives you
Strength for its size, which means slimmer stringers and longer flights than any other material. A finish that shrugs off weather. A structure that can be freestanding, hung from a wall or tied into a steel frame. And a look that suits a Victorian terrace as well as it suits a warehouse conversion, depending on the treads and railings you choose.
How we put one together
We survey the site, draw the stair to the exact floor-to-floor height and show you the tread size, the landing and the guarding before anything is cut. The stringers are cut and welded in our East Grinstead workshop, the finished assembly goes to the galvanisers, and any colour you choose is applied as a powder coat on top of the zinc. Our fitters deliver it and bolt it down, usually within a day.
Treads and railings
Open galvanised grating and chequer plate are the standard outdoor treads because they drain and do not ice up. Inside, or where the flight faces a neighbouring window, solid treads in steel, timber or stone-effect are all possible. Guarding is vertical bar as standard, with glass, wire or mesh infill on request, and a handrail on one or both sides as the regulations require.
Questions we are asked about Steel staircases
Can a steel staircase be used indoors too?
Yes. The same stringers and treads work indoors with a timber or carpeted tread, and inside we can leave the steel as a painted finish rather than galvanising.
How long will a galvanised steel staircase last?
Hot-dip galvanising typically protects steel outdoors for forty years or more before any maintenance is needed. A powder coat over the zinc gives you colour and an extra layer of protection.
