Internal balustrade
Inside a house the balustrade is the piece of metalwork you see most. We make it to suit the stair, the period of the house and the way you live, from plain black bar to frameless glass.

Styles
Vertical steel bar with a timber or steel handrail is the safe choice for most homes and the most economical. Glass with a stainless or timber handrail opens up a narrow hall. Horizontal wire suits a modern extension. Decorative scrolls and panels suit a period house and can be matched to an existing pattern.
Measured to the stair
Internal balustrades are made to the exact pitch of the flight and the exact length of the landing. We survey with a laser, make templates where the stair is winding, and fit with the minimum of drilling into a finished staircase.
Regulations
Guarding no lower than 900 mm beside the flight and the landing, openings small enough to stop a 100 mm sphere, and a handrail set at the right height. Older balustrades with horizontal rails or wide gaps often fail on the second point, which is a common reason for replacing them when there are children in the house.
Questions we are asked about Internal balustrade
Can you fit an internal balustrade to a timber staircase?
Yes. Most of our internal work is on timber stairs, fixed through the strings or into the treads with concealed brackets.
Can the handrail be oak to match the stair?
Yes. We supply and fit oak, ash and walnut handrails on steel or stainless posts.
